Obama proposed energy regulations to increase offshore drilling

On March 31, 2010, President Barack Obama announced a comprehensive energy plan, which would increase offshore drilling but reduce vehicle emissions and overall mileage. The plan allowed drilling activity off the coasts of the mid-Atlantic and southeastern states, as well as development in previously closed areas of the Gulf of Mexico. Agencies within the Department of the Interior (DOI) assembled a detailed report [PDF] on conventional and renewable offshore energy resources. Obama justified the new energy plan as "part of a broader strategy that will move us from an economy that runs on fossil fuels and foreign oil to one that relies on homegrown fuels and clean energy." Argentina ex-general sentenced to life for 'Dirty War' crimes

On March 31, 2011, an Argentine federal court sentenced former general Eduardo Cabanillas to life in prison for his involvement in that nation's 1976-1983 "Dirty War." Cabanillas was convicted of murder, torture and illegal imprisonment of detainees. The Dirty War was a systematic governmental campaign against leftist political dissidents, students, and media personnel. It is estimated that between 20,000 and 30,000 people were forcibly kidnapped or "disappeared" during the Dirty War, although the numbers are hard to determine due to the secrecy surrounding the abductions.
